A Florida man is facing felony vehicle theft charges after deputies say he stole a car from a dealership because he spent his last $50 on an Uber to get there.
Jason Vincent Vargesko took an Uber to a Hyundai dealership in Vero Beach, hoping to finance a brand-new 2024 Hyundai Tucson. But when the dealership denied his financing, things took a turn. Frustrated and out of money, Vargesko spotted a Tucson with the keys in the ignition—and decided to take matters into his own hands.
Unfortunately for him, the car had a GPS tracker. Deputies quickly traced it to his mother’s house, which also happened to be the address he put on his finance application. When officers arrived, they found Vargesko at home, where he admitted to taking the car. He told deputies he was upset because the dealership initially said he’d qualify but then denied him, leaving him stranded with no way home. He also mentioned that mental illness may have played a role in his decision.
Vargesko was arrested and charged with felony vehicle theft.
