Ego Nwodim, who played the singer on the weekly show, noted during Saturday’s segment that she was “sick and tired of interviewing people who aren’t icons.”
Nwodim finished interviews with Jason Mraz (host Kieran Culkin), Post Malone (Pete Davidson) and Ed Sheeran, “SNL’s musical guest who was playing himself, USA Today reported. Then she told the audience, “Please welcome me.”
The real Warwick, 80, embraced Nwodim, and then her doppleganger conducted an interview.
“Let me ask you something,” Nwodim said. “Dionne, why are you perfect?”
“My darling, I’m not perfect,” Warwick answered. “I’m just very, very good.”
Warwick chuckled when Nwodim asked, “Today I heard a song by an artist called YoungBoy Never Broke Again. Why aren’t people just called Burt Bacharach anymore?”
“I don’t know but that’s a very good question,” Warwick answered.
Bacharach and Hal David wrote one of Warwick’s signature songs, 1969′s “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again,” which peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Warwick and Nwodim then stood arm-in-arm to sing the Bacharach-David classic, “What the World Needs Now Is Love.”
Warwick has charted 69 times on Billboard’s Hot 100, reaching No. 1 with “Then Came You,” with The Spinners in 1984 and “That’s What Friends Are For” in 1985. Other notable hits by Warwick are “Do You Know the Way to San Jose,” “Walk On By,” “I Say a Little Prayer” and “Message to Michael.”
