California wildfires: Dozens of celebrities lose homes in blazes

As large swaths of Southern California burn in five different wildfires, dozens of celebrities say their homes are gone.

Cameron Mathison

Cameron Mathison told “Good Morning America” that he and his family were safe but took a few pieces of clothing and a few personal items. when they left their home in Altadena.

“I’ve been up all night. I can’t sleep,” Mathison said “I’ve lost my home and everything that I own. I have this hoodie and a pair of pants and two pairs of sneakers left. That’s it.”

He was leaving for dinner on Tuesday when he noticed the Eaton fire which has destroyed about 500 buildings.

“I raced back home and I put a bag together with what I’m wearing ... and I left to come and stay at an apartment here in Pasadena with my daughter and her mom and then as we’re watching the news, I realize this could be bad,” he told “Good Morning America.”

He shared a video of what was left of the property on Instagram. You can see portions of the wreckage still burning.

Cary Elwes

“The Princess Bride” actor Cary Elwes also said that his home was gone, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He shared on Instagram that his family was safe but the house was destroyed.

He had earlier shared the evacuation from Malibu on social media.

Billy Crystal

Billy Crystal said he and his wife were “heartbroken” from the loss of their home to the Pacific Palisades fire, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Words cannot describe the enormity of the devastation we are witnessing and experiencing. We ache for our friends and neighbors who have also lost their homes and businesses in this tragedy,” he said in a statement. “Janice and I lived in our home since 1979. We raised our children and grandchildren here. Every inch of our house was filled with love. Beautiful memories that can’t be taken away. We are heartbroken of course but with the love of our children and friends we will get through this. We pray for the safety of the fire fighters and first responders. The Pacific Palisades is a resilient community of amazing people and we know in time it will rise again. It is our home.”

John Goodman

Crystals “Monster’s Inc.” co-star, John Goodman apparently also lost his home, according to several media reports. He and his wife primarily live in New Orleans. He has not spoken about the fire, according to Metro.

Anna Faris

Anna Faris said she and her family were safe but that they lost their home also, according to People magazine. She had bought the house in 2019 after she and her ex-husband Chris Pratt split.

Heidi Montag

Reality television stars Heidi Montag and husband Spencer Pratt said that she only has two pairs of jeans and two shirts. She said she packed much more for her kids when they evacuated. Their home was destroyed, People magazine reported.

Pratt called it a “nightmare came true” in a separate social media post showing the flames.

Paris Hilton

Socialite Paris Hilton’s Malibu home was destroyed by the Palisades fire, TMZ reported. The home was not her main residence. She wrote on Instagram that she was “heartbroken” to see the beach house “burn to the ground on live TV.”

Adam Brody, Leighton Meester

Page Six reported that the home shared by Adam Brody and Leighton Meester was destroyed. The roof was missing in photos shared by the gossip site.

Miles Teller

Miles Teller and his wife Keleigh lost their home that they recently bought. Page Six said the foundation is all that remains.

Eugene Levy

Eugene Levy told The Los Angeles Times said that he was in gridlock trying to evacuate. The skies were dark from the smoke but he couldn’t see flames at the time. Page Six said only a few posts were left standing.

Diane Warren

Songwriter Diane Warren said that her home in Malibu was “lost in the fire last night,” the Independent reported. Warren said her animals however were safe.

James Woods

Actor James Woods told CNN that his home was gone. Breaking down in tears, he said, “I’m sorry - It’s just one day you’re in the pool, and the next, it’s all gone,” Deadline reported. Woods said he had moved into the home just months ago.

He said he was evacuated “with the clothes on our backs.”
